Abstract:
These materials are a collection of poems dealing with the history of the building of the Murid Mosque of Touba, and are considered by many Murid scholars to be one of the major texts of the Muridiyya order in its early days. The poems provide a historical context for the challenges faced by the Murid leadership, and describe how they overcame these challenges to build the mosque successfully. The material also includes discussions focused on the family of Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba, the founder of the order, and tributes to Serigne Modou Moustapha Mbacke, the first to serve as a Khalifa of the Muridiyya order after the death of Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba, his father and spiritual master. The achievements and qualities of Serigne Modou Moustapha are also discussed in the documents.
Based on the interview with the owner, the materials in this collection were written between the 1930s and the 1950s.
