The American Schools of Oriental Research is a non-profit organization that sponsors archaeological research in the Near East. The ASOR archives document over one hundred years of excavations and publications. ASOR is located on the BU campus, at 656 Beacon St.

Albright Papers(2010-04-14T17:40:24Z) Albright, William FoxwellThe collection primarily contains correspondence between Albright and other archaeologists and ASOR colleagues regarding research, excavations, new archaeological methods, and logistical aspects of publishing ASOR bulletins, journals, scholarly papers and monographs. Of particular interest is correspondence with Nelson Glueck, prominent biblical archaeologist and director of the Jerusalem School throughout the 1930s and 1940s. The letters also describe the political events in Jerusalem, the Arab Revolt (1936-1939) and ongoing tensions between the city’s religious communities.Item G. Material dates as far back as 1957, and proceed into the early 1970’s. Some of Wright’s more notable correspondents include William F. Albright, A. Henry Detweiler, Paul W. Lapp, William Reed, and Dean Seiler. The excavation was directed by Nelson Glueck. The collection includes level books, excavation diaries, artifacts, and photographs. The collection is being processed. The records also include annual financial records, trustee meeting minutes and memoranda, and information on an ongoing microfilming project. The correspondence also documents the discovery and purchase of manuscripts by other organizations.
