Walter H. Sangree papers

The Walter H. Sangree papers comprise photographs, field notes, manuscripts and printed materials primarily produced in relation to Sangree’s fieldwork on the Tiriki in Kenya (1954-56) and in Irigwe, Plateau State, Nigeria (1963-65).
Walter Sangree received his PhD in anthropology at the University of Chicago, conducted Fulbright Grant sponsored fieldwork in Kenya from 1954-56 and fieldwork in Nigeria from 1963-65 supported by the National Science Foundation. Walter Sangree taught in the Anthropology Department at University of Rochester from 1957 until 1995 and (as of 2019) is a visiting researcher at the Boston University African Studies Center.
