dc.description.abstractThe interaction of 4, 4-dimethylhomophthalimide with phosphorus oxychloride at 200° was reported by Gabriel Ber. 20 , 1205 (1837) to furnish a product C11H9Cl2N. A structure, corresponding to that of 1-chloro-3-methyl-4-chloromethylisoquinoline, which is arrived at by application of electronic theory is different from the structures tentatively suggested for the C11H9Cl2N product by Gabriel.
