The City of Salem is located in the northeastern portion of Massachusetts on the shores of Massachusetts Bay. It lies approximately 18 miles northeast of Boston and its present area is 8.18 square miles. The city is bounded on the north by Beverly and Danvers, on the west and southwest by Peabody and Lynn; and Swampscott and Marblehead complete its land boundary on the south and southwest.
