dc.description.abstractThe research described in this manuscript can be divided into two sections. The first was designed to determine a critical dosa ge of the teratogen 5-fluoro, 2, 4-deoxyuridine required for producing reliable cleft palate formation (wi th minimal resorptions) in fetal Sprague-Dawley rats. The s econd task was the biochemical assay of fresh palatal tissue from 15-day fetal rats (removed just prior to the period of palatal f us ion). Values of total protein, total RNA, and DNA were determined in the tissue at this critical time. It is hoped that these data will provide usefu l base l ine data for future researchers who may wish to perform biochem i cal studies on cleft palate tissue.en_US
