dc.description.abstractDuring the last fifteen years there has been a great deal of research performed concerning the morphology of the muscle spindle, however no paper giving a comprehensive and vivid picture of the mammalian muscle spindle has been published during this period. The purpose of this review is to present the most recent morphological findings on the mammalian neuromuscular spindle including the period from 1949 to 1963 (December). In view of these findings certain new ideas on the histological appearance of the spindle have been proposed. There appears to be a constant relationship between entry and distribution of nerve supply, the spindles usually being located in the neighborhood of the main intramuscular trunks, not necessarily occupying the muscle belly or region of nerve entry of the muscle, as was until recently believed to be true. The connective tissue capsule is composed of six thin concentric circular sheets of connective tissue containing fibroblasts called 11Capsular-sheet cells" [TRUNCATED].en_US
