dc.description.abstractBackground: Previous studies have established specific cephalometric norms for children with different ethnic backgrounds, showing different facial features for each group. Up till now, there is a paucity of information about the cephalometric features of Emirati children. The aim of the present study was to establish cephalometric norms for Emirati children. Material and methods: The study included cephalometric radiographs taken for a total of 44 (25 females and 19 males) patients between 10-14years of age having good facial proportions and Class I dental occlusion. Tracing of the cephalometric x rays were done using the Dolphin software system and analyzing the radiographs. By evaluating the common relative measurements of each cephs and identifying a set of norms that match the native UAE Children. Statistical analysis: Using the t-test, the mean value, Standard deviation of a range of angular and linear variables were calculated and compared males to females of mixed Emirati aged 10-14 yrs. Results: Emirati females tend to have a statistically significant face height ratio compared to males, meaning that the females have a more vertical growth tendency. A statistically significant weak pogonion point was evident in males more than females. The combined analysis of 44 Emirati compared to Michigan values concluded that there is statistical significance in ANB0 (p[less than] 0.001). The increased ANB0 was mainly due to females having a more forward position of point A, with a more backward position of point B relative to males. The upper incisors were statistically significantly backward positioned (p[less than] 0.001) relative to the NA line and protrusion. Lower incisors were statistically significant (P[less than] 0.001) backward positioned relative to NB line, and retroclined relative to the mandibular plane, and frankfort horizontal lines. Conclusion: Emirati children have distinct cephalometric features, which further studies have to be done to conclude a reference to be used in the orthodontic treatment of young Emirati patients.en_US
