In-vitro shear bond evaluation of new "all-in-one" adhesive systems and the effect of thermocycling on their bond strength

Abstract
Purpose: (1)To evaluate the in-vitro adhesive performance of new self-etch (SE), "All-in-One" adhesive systems; (2 To evaluate bonding effect of these systems to enamel and dentin; 3) To evaluate the effect of thermocycling on their adhesive performance.
Methods: Six “All-in-One” self-etching adhesive systems: 1)- Bond Force (Tokuyama); 2)- G-Bond (GC); 3)-Adper Prompt L Pop (3M-ESPE); 4)- Xeno IV (Dentsply); 5)- Clearfil Tri-S Bond (Kuraray); 6)- Adper Easy Bond (3M-ESPE) and one 2 component adhesive 7)- Clearfil SE Bond permanent teeth were mounted into acrylic resin bases. The mounting ensured that the enamel tooth surface was even with the top of the mounting cylinder. Dentin-bonded specimens were sectioned to reveal dentin. Adhesives were applied in each experimental group according to the manufacturer's instructions. A single restorative composite (Z-250, 3M-ESPE) was used in cojunction with all adhesives. The composite was placed on a tooth surface using special molds and holding clamps (Ultradent) via a cylindrical opening measuring 2.3mm in diameter. All specimens were photo polymerized for 40 seconds with the same light curing unit (Astralis 10 - Ivoclar) then stored for 24 hours at 37 degrees C water. The specimens (n=420) were divided into three groups: Group 1 (n=168) these specimens including bonded enamel and dentin were tested for bond strength after 24 hours in water storage, without thermocycling. Group 2 (n=186) included specimens of enamel and dentin that were tested for bond strength after thermocycling between 5 degrees C and 55 degrees C with a dwell time of 30 seconds for 1000 cycles. Group 3 (n=84) included dentin bonded specimens were thermocycled for 5000 cycles prior to shear testing. A Universal Testing Machine (Instron) at a cross head speed of 0.5 mm/min was used for all shear testing. Data was analyzed for significant differences using One-way, Two-way ANOVA and Univariate analysis of variance.
