Abstract
Chronic Conditions and Occupational Therapy: Strategies for Improving Outcomes through the Lens of Occupational Justice is a continuing education program for occupational therapy clinicians. The program was designed to enhance occupational therapists' knowledge of the factors that may impact clients' ability to manage their chronic health conditions. By exploring the role of the OTP, the client’s willingness to change lifestyle behaviors, the role of the clinician's implicit bias, and methods for advocacy, therapists can effectively support clients who experience challenges in occupational engagement due to their chronic health issues. Background research on the impact of chronic conditions, the role of occupational therapy, and alternative programs will be discussed. Details on the program’s theoretical base, development, and outcome measures will be addressed.
