Thymus transplants in the golden hamster

Abstract
Thymic tissue from neonatal and 3-week old donors was transplanted into the cheek pouches of thymectomized and non-thymectomized hamsters of different ages. For neonatal transplants an entire lobe was used per transplant; for 3-week old glands, pieces measuring one cubic millimeter were used. Transplants were examined weekly for survival and growth rates, and samples of transplants were removed at 6 and 12 weeks and examined histologically.
Homografts and autografts of 3-week old thymic tissue in immature hosts (3 weeks old) were not successful. Homografts of neonatal thymic tissue in immature (3 week) thmectomized, immature non-thymectomized, mature (8 week) thymectomized, mature non-thymectomized , and senile hamsters were successful in 93 percent of the cases [TRUNCATED].
