Abstract
It has long been known that certain dihydroisoquinolines could be converted to 2-acydstyrenes, by a series of several reactions. Only recently it was shown, by Gensler and Samour, that the conversion could be effected by combining the separate reactions into one operation. Because only-one compound had been carried through the one-step process, the scope of this simplified reaction was undetermined. It was the purpose of the present study to try the new process with certain other dihydroisoquinolines, with the object in mind of detemining the extent of its applicability. The compounds chosen for study were 1-phenyl-3,4-dihydro-6, 7-dimethoxyisoquinoline, 3, 4-dihydro-6, 7-dimethoxyisoquinoline, and 1-methyl-3, 4-dihydro-6, 7-dimethoxyisoquinoline. [TRUNCATED]
