Abstract
Bequia is one of the Grenadine Islands located in the Caribbean Sea. It has a history of dental neglect due to its isolation, socioeconomics, and other related factors. This Masters Thesis and Project in conjunction with Project S.H.I.P.(Self-Health for Isolated Populations), a non-profit health care planning and training organization, has sought to educate this population through the preparation and use of dental literature as a beginning to eradicate the problem of poor dental health. This literature consists of a preventive dental health manual to be used by educators and non-dental health professionals in their teaching facilities and clinics, respectively. This manual was designed as an aid for dental health education practices. The literature also consists of three pamphlets that were hand drawn emphasizing the consequences of not receiving dental care to the population in culturally typical scenes. These Pamphlets will be distributed to the island population. The preparation of this literature and introduction of it into the community form the basis of this project.
