Abstract
Families of children with special healthcare needs currently experience increased hardships when planning and engaging in family vacations. While all families have to be mindful of a variety of factors when planning a vacation, families that have children with special healthcare needs report needing to consider additional factors that can lead to decreased overall engagement. Well planned family vacations are beneficial as they can reduce stress as the family connects and grows. However, a vacation where a child’s healthcare needs are left unmet, can create additional stressors (Schänzel et al., 2012). The overarching goal of the MAGIC program being proposed is to promote travel, increase parental comfort when going into the larger community with their child, and increase parental knowledge of advocacy skills and resources that can be utilized for future travel.
