Abstract
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to compare the skeletal and dentoalveolar effects of multiple Class II treatment modalities in Class II Division I malocclusions in patients treated with SureSmile [superscript TM] to a standardized outcome.
Materials and Methods: A retrospective study was conducted using lateral cephalograms constructed from Cone Beam Computed Tomographic images previously taken on patients treated with SureSmile [superscript TM]. Subjects who were included in this study exhibited a skeletal discrepancy of ANB ≧ 4 degrees, at least 4 mm of overjet, bilateral Class II end-on molar occlusion or greater, ranged in age from 8-14 years old, and were treated with non-extraction orthodontic treatment. Subjects were divided into groups based on class II treatment modality which included distalization using temporary anchorage devices (n=14), Class II elastics (n=6), and Forsus appliance (n=9). Pre-treatment and post-treatment lateral cephalograms were traced and mean changes in outcomes were analyzed using paired T-tests along with multiple comparisons between groups with a one-way ANOVA. P Value of .05 was used for statistical significance. One-third of the lateral cephalograms were retraced after l month. Intra-examiner reliability was calculated at 93-99% for the parameters measured.
