Abstract
The audience addressed by the text is "the afflicted, the brokenhearted, the captives, the prison, and mourners. In short," as Will Willimon says, "your average December congregation." After playing with the idea that the comfortable sanctuary of First Baptist Church may be the wrong context for the text, I conclude that maybe it isn't after all, that maybe what we want and the need for Christmas, is God's help.
