Abstract
This investigation was conducted to study the revascularization and to document the healing responses of the epithelium, soft connective tissue and alveolar bone to apically positioned split flaps with and without removal of crestal periosteum. A comparison between these two surgeries was made. Both types of surgery were performed on the same animal to decrease the number of variables. In this way, the environmental conditions were closely similar for the two surgeries in each time period, making a comparison of the two surgeries more meaningful. [TRUNCATED]
