Abstract
It was the purpose of this study (1) to investigate the importance of the concept of interest as it relates to curriculum revision and development; (2) to investigate children's interest in musical activities at the junior high school level; (3) to relate these interests with maturation levels; and (4) to investigate the alteration of interest in music listening as a result of direct instruction.
The historical development of the concept of interest was reviewed. Also reviewed were the psychological implication of the concept of interest in the learning situation, and, more specifically, the role of interest in relation to music education. [TRUNCATED]
