Abstract
The research described in this manuscript can be divided into two sections. The first was designed to determine a critical dosa ge of the teratogen 5-fluoro, 2, 4-deoxyuridine required for producing reliable cleft palate formation (with minimal resorptions) in fetal Sprague-Dawley rats. The second task was the biochemical assay of fresh palatal tissue from 15-day fetal rats (removed just prior to the period of palatal fusion). Values of total protein, total RNA, and DNA were determined in the tissue at this critical time.
It is hoped that these data will provide useful baseline data for future researchers who may wish to perform biochemical studies on cleft palate tissue.
