Abstract
In an effort to establish structure of the cobalt selenocyanate ion comparative tests were made of the cobalt thiocyanate and
cyanate blue complex ions. It is known that these complex ions are of the structure (Co(SCN)4 and Co(OCN)4. Spectral transmittance curves were made of trn se two complexes and found to be very similar to that of the selenocyanate complex, indicating similar structures. As additional evidence of similarity between complexes the salts, cobalt thiocyanopyridine and cobalt selenocyanopyridine, were prepared. Both are pink crystalline salts. The structure of the thiocyanate salt is known to be (CoPy4(SCN)2.
