Abstract
On December 10, 1948, the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted and proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as the culmination of a long and tedious history of struggles and pressures for international recognition of the fundamental rights and freedoms of man. This document, while not legally binding upon any nation signing it, was a moral and educational step in the direction of an enforceable system of human rights that will eventually have universal interpretation and application.
This Declaration sums up the civil, political and religious liberties that men have struggled for and shed blood for these past centuries. It also contains new economic and social rights which are in no nation recognized and practiced in whole. [TRUNCATED]
