Abstract
Moses ben Maimon, popularly known as Maimonides, was born in Spain, of Jewish parents. He was the son of a cultured father who instilled in him decisive habits of learning. The family's life became very uneasy under the Moslem rulers. Eventually refuge was sought in Egypt, where it was no longer necessary to profess the Mohammedan faith. Due to Maimonides' proficiency as a physician, he enjoyed special favors, as a result of his appointment as court physician to the ruler, Saladin. It was while in this position, that his inner faith was restored and he felt encouraged to improve the life of the Jews in Cairo. [TRUNCATED]
