Abstract
The antibacterial activity against Enterococcus faecal is (E. faecalis) of 3 types of Manuka honey
was investigated using indirect impedance microbiology, and their effectiveness was compared with that of the intracanal medicament calcium hydroxide [Ca(OH)2]. Methods: E. faecalis (ATCC 29212) inoculum was prepared and diluted to obtain 1 McF standard using
spectrophotometer. Treatment groups were tested in triplicates and divided as the following: Manuka honeys MH 1 (n=3), MH2 (n=3), MH3 (n=3), Ca(OH) 2 (n=3), Positive control (n=3), Negative control (n=3). Test tubes with testing agents were placed in each RABIT insert cell as follows. 2.5 ml of TSB growth media were placed in each test tube. 2 g of the testing agent were placed in each corresponding tube except controls and vortex for few seconds. 0.1 g of dentin powder was added in each tube. Aliquots (0.5 ml) of the prepared E. faecalis broth dilution were added to the corresponding tube except the negative control. Prepared cells were placed in the incubator module.[TRUNCATED]
