Biography: Babanding Fofana was born and raised in Oudoucar-Pakao in the region of Sedhiou where he studied the Quran. His village is an important Islamic learning center. According to the manuscript owner, everybody in his village must at least receive Quranic education. His uncle, Al-hadji Sidiya Sylla, who was the Imam of Oudoucar when he was growing up, taught him the Quran. Though everyone must learn the Quran and acquire some Islamic knowledge in his village, he realized that not everyone is destined to follow the traditional career of marabout (religious leader, healer, and diviner). Thus, he left his village to learn a different skill. He now serves as a florist in Moya Hotel in Kolda.
