Purpose.-- The purpose of this thesis is three-fold: to study the undergraduate preparation of potential teachers of secondary-school English in selected colleges and universities in New England; to evaluate this preparation on the basis of recommendations of leaders in the field; and to compare the findings of this study with, and thus bring up to date, thesis of Evelyn R. Robinson, "Study of Undergraduate Preparation of Potential Teachers of Secondary-School English in Selected New England Colleges".
Scope and Limitations.-- This thesis attempts to survey regionally or nationally accredited liberal arts colleges, schools of education and teachers colleges in New England currently preparing undergraduate potential teachers of English for the secondary school. [TRUNCATED]
