In this 60-minute online workshop, participants adopt the perspective of a healthcare provider from a profession other than their own and apply that perspective to the care of Mr. Rodriguez, an 84-year-old man with moderate Alzheimer's disease, severe knee osteoarthritis, and weight loss. Participants explore the websites of professional organizations (physical therapy, nursing, nutrition, social work, occupational therapy, recreational therapy, wound care, geriatric pharmacy, and psychology specializing in dementia care), then reconvene to share input in a simulated, time-limited interprofessional team meeting. Learning objectives: explain the role of an interprofessional team in caring for an aging adult; describe caring for an aging adult from the perspective of a provider in a profession other than your own; list three ways that interprofessional collaboration benefits patients and caregivers. In this 60-minute online workshop, residents adopt the role of a health professional from another discipline — such as a physical therapist, pharmacist, or social worker — to develop an assessment and plan for an older adult with Alzheimer's disease, then reconvene to share their perspectives in a simulated interprofessional team meeting.en-USThis material is distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International.https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/Interprofessional education workshopCase-based IPEC activityGeriatrics team-based learningIt Takes a Village workshopInterprofessional collaboration older adultsRole-play health professions educationAlzheimer's disease interprofessional careWeight loss frailty older adult caseDementia care interprofessional teamOnline IPEC activity residentsPharmacy nursing social work gatheringsCase-based interprofessional workshop for geriatrics residents adopting other professional rolesHow to facilitate an interprofessional team meeting simulation for internal medicine residentsTeaching interprofessional collaboration using the perspective of physical therapy nursing and pharmacyOnline interprofessional education activity for GME trainees in geriatric medicine rotationLearning to collaborate across health professions when caring for older adults with dementiaResource E.
