Goldman School of Graduate Dentistry, 1982 (Dental Public Health).Includes bibliographical references: (leaves 31-32).A teacher's guide on dental health education was developed for students enrolled in the Day Program at Kennedy Memorial Hospital for children in Brighton, Massachusetts, by Paula Raskin in 1979. Using the Raskin guide as a model, a follow-up study implementing a dental health education program was devised for one class in the Day Program. The study focused on reinforcing the importance of daily dental care for the special child. Evaluation of results were based on patient questionnaires, plaque indices before, during, and after implementation of the program, and teacher evaluation of the child’s cognitive, motor, and affective skills pertaining to dental health. The class consisted of four boys and four girls aged nine to twelve. All of these children had varying degrees of learning impairments and motor problems. Basic concepts of dental health were taught, with special emphasis on the development of motor skills: Cognitive and affective skills were deemphasized in this program because of learning deficits.
