Abstract
Beta-4-Morpholineethanol was prepared by allowing equivalent quantities Beta.Beta-dichlorodiethyl ether and ethanolamine to react in the presence of ten percent excess calcium carbonate or sodium hydroxide. Although conditions were varied considerably, the yield in every experiment was about twenty percent. After removal of the B-4-morpholineethanol, a solid remained in every experiment which was not identified. The Beta-4-morpholineethanol was identified by analysis of its picrate and by a comparison of the melting point of its picrate with one prepared from known B-4-morpholineethanol.
