Abstract
In the theological method of Nels Ferre there is a peculiar intermixture of the existential and the rational. There is a persistent attempt to give reason its full power as the arbiter of religious truth, and at the same time the reader is invited to see the limitations of reason to the extent that it cannot be man's ultimate criterion. In theology rationalism for Ferre is the theory that the reason of the natural man constitutes the final criterion of truth. The existential perspective is the perspective from whole-response, which requires the deepest passions as well as the intellect and will of the whole man. [TRUNCATED]
