Abstract
The aim of this work was to determine the dietary effects of two bioflavonoids, rutin and quercetin, On Periodontal disease and dental Caries in the rat. For this studyl male rats were fed the experimental diets for a Period of forty two days・The bioflavonoid naringin was also fed as another comparison since this bioflavonoid had been extensively studied in this laboratory. At the end of the forty two days, alveolar bone was examined under a dissecting microscope equipped with a reticle lens. The alveolar bone loss from maxillary and mandibular jaws were scored at various sites. The sites examined were mesial, midpoint and distal in the first molars; meSial and distal in the second and third molars (corresponding to the number of roots); the buccal and lingual sides were recorded separately. The results showed that both tested bioflavonoids had beneficial effects in prevention of alveolar bone loss. [TRUNCATED]
