Abstract
Numerous investigations have been carried out in attempt to inhibit calculus formation. Many different materials and methods have been utilized for this purpose. This investigation was designed to test the effect of a material which had been used before (sodium hexametaphosphate); however, in our study this material for the first time was combined with magnesium chloride to prevent the tooth from being affected. The sodium hexametaphosphate action, therefore, was restricted to the forming calculus. The product tested was a significant adjunct in controlling calculus formation; however, it showed no effect on the rate or amount of dental plaque formed
