Abstract
This study is an investigation by the author in the area of music dictation and adopts the form of a scientific experiment. The purpose of the experiment is as follows:
1. To construct, tape, and validate a series of graded exercises of increasing difficulty for rhythmic, melodic, and harmonic dictation.
2. To compare the progress to be achieved by an Experimental Group that takes dictation of the above exercises reproduced by tape recorder without any active teaching on the part of the instructor, with that of a Control Group which takes dictation of the same exercises in regular class lessons.
The entire experiment is threefold:
1. Experiment in Rhythmic Dictation.
2. Experiment in Melodic Dictation.
3. Experiment in Harmonic Dictation.
