Abstract
Many black young adults are leaving the church but still want to grow spiritually. Unfortunately, they lack a spiritual community outside the church that can nurture their faith. Without intervention, many will be left without spiritual grounding and support. By developing journey groups, this project seeks to create a safe space outside of the church to address the spiritual needs of young adults and provide an alternate community in which to grow spiritually. Using Jack Mezirow’s transformational learning stages of naming a disorienting dilemma, self-examination, and reintegration, young adults will actively engage in personal spiritual development while creating a spiritual community among themselves.
