Abstract
This study was set up as an extension and expansion of a retention study conducted at the Boston University-School of Graduate Dentistry in 1972. Originally the study was designed to provide some systematic material and data concerning retention of orthodonti cally treated cases. This particular paper wi II present a quantative, descriptive appraisa~ of both the anterior-posterior and vertical changes that occured during active orthodontic treatment and a variable (one to four years) post-treatment retention period. An attempt will be made to correlate these changes with associated, measureable variables. Forty-two cases were selected from the files of the Department of Orthodontics at the school. Case selection was totally arbitrary with the only qualifying criteria being availability of complete detailed records of the case prior to treatment and immediately following active orthodontic treatment. Another set of records was then taken to illustrate a post-treatment or retention period. [TRUNCATED]
