Abstract
Eleven full upper dentures with auto-cured resin bases were inserted against lower dentitions of artificial or natural teeth. The upper anteriors were of porcelain, evenly divided between silane bonded and mechanically pinned teeth, all randomly placed. Observations at three, six and nine month intervals were carried out to investigates 1. The integrity of the silane bond. 2. Possible porcelain-resin interface stainjn of control and bonded teeth a like. 3. Denture base fractures and their location. 4. Any deleterious effects of clinical thermal cycling that may have affected the porcelain. Laboratory studies were also executed, primarily to test the effects of thermal cyclin on denture simulating devices usin a variety of thermal differentials. Pushout strengths for pinned controls, silane bonded teeth without cycling and all cycled specimens were determined. Clinical and laboratory procedures, findings and results are herein discussed.
