Abstract
A number of adhesive systems for the direct bonding of orthodontic attachments to teeth have been reported in the last few years. It was the purpose of this investigation to continue the evaluation of a relatively new system which was introduced in 1972, and to compare this system with two other adhesive systems which have been developed recently.
Plastic brackets were bonded directly to the teeth of patients randomly chosen from the orthodontic clinic at the Boston University School of Graduate Dentistry.
These brackets were placed usingĀ· one of the three adhesive systems being tested. Conventional orthodontic treatment procedures were then performed.
The results of this investigation indicate that the technique of directly bonding orthodontic attachments to teeth is a viable one. There are some problems involved, however, especially with the use of the plastic brackets which are now available. Once these shortcomings are remedied, direct bonding could become a routine procedure for comprehensive treatment in orthodontic practice.
