Airway management in neonates

Abstract
Multiple intubation attempts, specifically three or more, of neonates and small infants can have great complications during surgery. These complications include hypoxemia, bradycardia, and cardiac arrest. Clinical trials have shown that the use of standard blade Video laryngoscopy (VL) increases the success of first-attempt intubation. Direct laryngoscopy (DL) showed an increase in intubation attempts. An important factor for limiting complications in these patients is the knowledge of switching from DL to VL. In Europe, guidelines have been implemented to switch to VL. We analyzed airway management techniques in infants less than two months over time and explored the change in these techniques with the patient's outcome. These techniques included DL vs VL and number of intubation attempts.
