Abstract
This dissertation examines the legacy of Alberto Williams, father of Argentinian music, through the creation of a new edition of his Symphony No. 4 “El Ataja-Caminos” Op. 98 composed in 1935. Utilizing the original manuscript as the sole existing source, in this dissertation, I present a new engraving in modern standard notation, including a critical commentary, a list of instrumentation with the corresponding abbreviations used in the score, the original poem that Alberto Williams used to characterize the music, a list of editorial notes and corrections, and a complete catalog of his works. This project marks the initial step in the critical editing and revival of Williams’s entire orchestral repertoire. Moreover, this research highlights the importance of Williams's musical contributions to the history of Argentinian music, enriching scholarly understanding of his legacy and its contemporary relevance.
