Abstract
Based on Oliets’ 1956 study, only molten metal for 10 sec. (415 [degrees] – 425 [degrees] F) and glass beads for 10 sec. (425 [degrees] -380 [degrees] F) are effective methods for chairside sterilization of endodontic instruments. Very little, if any, information exists in the literature regarding the ability of chemical solutions to disinfect endodontic files. The object of this investigation was to examine several common disinfectants used in the dental office to see which concentrations and contact times would produce effective sterilization of contaminated endodontic files.
