Abstract
In biomedicine, integrative medicine treatments and clinics are evaluated based on pre-existing standards of efficacy and efficiency, both through quality improvement and clinical trials. Such frameworks do not fully capture what it means to make a clinical care a success. Through interviews with medical doctors, acupuncturists, and patients, as well as observations during clinical sessions, I demonstrate how integrative medicine and holistic care creates space for patients to be in charge of their own care journey and nurtures trust, communication, and hope.
