Abstract
This dissertation presents a practice guide to Stravinsky’s Violin Concerto in D, using etudes and exercises to address its technical and musical challenges. It explores violin literature, Stravinsky’s background, and his collaboration with violinist Samuel Dushkin. It also discusses structural and formal analyses of the concerto, the differences between neoclassical aesthetics and the Romantic virtuoso concerto tradition and compares various violin methods to support technical mastery and musical interpretation. Chapters 4 and 5 focus respectively on the left hand and the right hand techniques, organized by the type of the techniques. The goal of this study is to provide practice strategies that make Stravinsky’s violin concerto more approachable.
