Abstract
Migraines are one of the leading causes of debilitating pain for adults between the ages of 18-44. Attacks can severely diminish quality of life, as can certain strategies to avoid common migraine triggers. In recent years, more information and knowledge has been gained on the pathophysiology of this disorder, which has led to improved treatment plans for those struggling with migraine. As there are various types of migraine disorders, there also needs to be variation of treatment type. With advances in genetic analysis and imaging techniques, researchers have been able to develop a deeper understanding of migraine pathology and potential causes. The many migraine symptom theories likely work alongside one another and vary on a case-to-case basis. Treatment plans now reflect this, with multiple strategies employed for each patient.
