Abstract
Cities Joining Ranks - Policy Networks on the Rise is a research project that explores city network space in the United States by addressing three guiding questions: How do city policy networks in the US compare to one another? Which US cities join which networks and have similar network profiles? Why do mayors sign on to networks?
Fifteen active city networks with strong name recognition, engagements, and US member base were selected for the study (among others: C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group; Carbon Neutral Cities Alliance; We Are Still In, Mayors Against Illegal Guns; and Cities of Service). A first of its kind city data set, incorporating data from the 2017 Menino Survey of Mayors, provides insight into relationships between mayors' perspectives on city networks, a city's voting behavior, its demographics, and the actual network joining behavior of all US cities with populations over 75,000.
