Comparative analysis of the accuracy of implant transfer technique

Abstract
In this study four different implant transfer techniques following two different master cast systems (Solid vs Zeiser) were evaluated and compared with respect to the accuracy with which abutment positions are reproduced (two anterior, two posterior).
A stainless steel experimental model with four fixtures and abutments was fabricated. The transfer impressions (14 each) were made using four techniques:
Technique I: no splinting.
Technique II: splinting with floss and Duralay acrylic resin.
Technique III: splinting with wire and Duralay acrylic resin.
Technique IV: Splinting with Duralay acrylic resin alone.
The fourteen impressions in each technique were divided into two equal groups:
Group 1: Solid cast system
Group 2: Zeiser system
Each master cast was measured vertically and horizontally by using a Nikon profile projector (Japan).
Duralay did not introduce any observable significant error in the implant transfer procedure. There is no apparent difference between splinting and not splinting when impressions are taken with polyether impression mate1ial (Impregum). The Zeiser system provides more accurate interabutment relationships in master casts than a Solid cast system.
