This guide provides rotation directors and clinician-facilitators with everything needed to implement the VA Bedford Geriatric Medicine GME rotation, from the pre-rotation welcoming email and first-day orientation through ongoing support, with detailed facilitators' guides for the multicomplexity, CGA, interprofessional workshop, and medication management exercises.
Description
Implementation guide for the VA Bedford Geriatric Medicine GME rotation, including a list of educational resources (Abstract and Resources A–H), an implementation narrative, a tactics table for optimizing residents' ability to learn and to care for patients, and facilitators' guides for exercises in Resources B (Multicomplexity exercise; Matters Most/CGA exercise), D (Interprofessional CGA team meeting), E (It Takes a Village interprofessional workshop), and H (Active Medication Management activity/handout). From 2017 to 2023, the curriculum was implemented with approximately 240 PGY2-3 family medicine and internal medicine residents from four area programs, and 33 PGY4 subspecialty geriatrics trainees from two programs, on 2–4 week rotations.
