Abstract
Objectives: the purpose of this study is to determine the failure load of all-Ceramic crowns and bridges with machined veneers and evaluate the effect of cyclic loading on the failure load. Also, the study aims at examining the failure mode of the tested specimens.
Materials and methods: Frameworks, copings and veneers were milled using a CEREC inLab MC XL (Sirona, Gemany) milling unit. Veneered bridges and crowns were cemented on aluminum dies using Multilink Automix resin cement (Ivoclar Vivadent). Experimental groups with n= 12 in the first part of the study are IPS e-maX CAD veneer bonded to VITA In-Ceram Zirconia framework; e-maX CAD veneer bonded to VITA In-Ceram YZ framework; VITA MKII Veneer bonded to VITA In-Ceram zirconia framework; VITA Triluxe veneer bonded to VITA In-Ceram YZ framework. In the second part of the study the experimental groups with n=12 are: VITA Enamic veneer bonded to VITA MKII core; Enamic veneer bonded to VITA YZ core; MKII veneer bonded to Enamic core; MKII veneer bonded to YZ core. Half of the specimens were randomly assigned for static failure load testing and half were subjected to cyclic loading at 30% of the mean static failure load of 1,009N, 935N, 674N, and 621N respectively for 100,000 cycles in a cyclic fatigue device (Boston University, Biomaterial research lab) (in the first part of the study). In the second part of the study specimens were subjected to cyclic loading at 30% of the mean static failure load of427N, 489N, 678N, 606N respectively for 100,000 cycles, and specimens were then tested using a universal testing machine (Instron 5566 A) at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min. Statistical analysis using Tukey HSD tests at p [less than or equal to] 0.05.
