Abstract
The writer has subjected Chaucer's borrowed materials to critical analysis in an attempt to show that whatever he derived from classical sources was adopted and used in accordance with a specific purpose, namely to tell a good story. Perhaps the greatest value of his study is that it brings together into on volume an up-to-date survey summary of the research and opinions of scholars into Chaucer's use of classical themes and materials in The Canterbury Tales.
