Abstract
The goal of this project was to evaluate the present quality assurance system of the Harvard Community Health Plan dental units. This was accomplished through interviews with personnel, visits to sites and comparison of present quality assurance mechanisms with those discovered through an extensive review of the literature. This project also looked closely at the feasibility of conducting a prevalence study to gather information. Trends in dental health from 1972-1985 were observed which were substantiated through a review of the dental literature. An in-depth radiographic review which is conducted at the Kenmore site was examined for the possibility of providing information such as patient dental health status and demographic data. Preliminary computer analysis using the utility SPSS-X was used to examine the type and location of errors made in exposing and processing full-mouth radiographic surveys (FMX) at the Kenmore Center. Alteratives for improving the present quality assurance system are also presented in this paper.
