Abstract
INTRODUCTION
This list contains oral histories relevant to the study of postcolonial Africa in the LDS Church
History Library, located in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah. This bibliography, which I have
organized alphabetically by country, includes the oral histories of converts, missionaries, and
Latter–day Saints whose careers took them to Africa for other reasons, such as foreign service
officers at the U.S. Department of State. When oral histories are relevant to the history of
multiple countries, I have cross-listed them in all the relevant sections for the sake of
convenience. I have also chosen to exclude closed and unprocessed oral histories from this
bibliography. For instance, I was able to identify the oral histories of dozens of Latter–day Saints
from Ethiopia, Liberia, and Mozambique in the library catalog, but they are currently closed to
public research, and may not be used by researchers without first submitting a "Restricted
Materials Request Form." For this reason, this list may be outdated by the time it is published, as
new oral histories are processed and opened for public research all the time. Nevertheless, it is
my hope that the publication of this bibliography of some of the materials available for the study
of postcolonial Africa in the LDS Church History Library will assist historians in writing the
history of Africa after 1960.
