Abstract
Sleep disturbances significantly impact individuals with mental illness, affecting their overall well-being and daily functioning. Traditional single-modality interventions for chronic insomnia, while effective, face limitations including accessibility challenges, adherence difficulties, and insufficient long-term sustainability. This doctoral project proposes the S.L.E.E.P. (Sleep Lifestyle Enhancement & Education Program), an innovative integrated intervention that combines Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for Insomnia (MBCT-I), and Sleep Hygiene Education (SHE) delivered through a hybrid telehealth model. The program targets adults aged 18–65 with chronic insomnia, utilizing a structured eight-week format with both individual and group components. This comprehensive approach addresses the multifactorial nature of insomnia while leveraging occupational therapy expertise to enhance functional outcomes. The proposed program evaluation employs a mixed-methods design to assess effectiveness in improving sleep quality, reducing insomnia severity, and enhancing occupational engagement. By integrating evidence-based interventions into a flexible, accessible format, S.L.E.E.P. offers a scalable solution that addresses critical gaps in current insomnia treatment approaches.
